From the International Film Festival to music festivals, triathlons and more, Los Cabos has become a main destination for high-profile arts and entertainment events. Matter of fact in recent years, Cabo has gotten so busy that you can find festivals, major events and sporting competitions during every month of the year.
Here is the five events you don’t want to miss!
1. Los Cabos International Film Festival
Held in one of Mexico’s most beautiful resort destinations, the festival draws in thousands of attendees, filmmakers, actors and artists from Mexico, the U.S. and around the globe. At the 3rd annual festival in 2014, there were over 15,000 attendees including several notable actors, directors and artists, such as Matt Dillion, Reese Witherspoon, Diego Luna, Rosario Dawson and Virginia Madsen.
2. Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments
Bisbee’s holds a total of three annual fishing tournaments in Baja California Sur: the East Cape Offshore, Bisbee’s Black & Blue and Los Cabos Offshore. Each year, over a hundred teams compete for black and blue marlin with one goal in mind, to exceed a 300 pound catch. In 2014, a total of 125 teams competed in the Black & Blue tournament, resulting in a whopping $2 million dollars in cash prizes to winners. The biggest qualifying fish from last years tournament was a 385-pound blue marlin.
3. Cabo Comedy Festival
The Cabo Comedy Festival welcomes leading comedians from the U.S. and Mexico for a five-day event packed full of laughs. Hosted at various nightclub venues around Cabo San Lucas, including Cabo Wabo Cantina, Hard Rock Cafe, Desperado’s and Pink Kitty, this an event you don’t want to miss! The festival takes place during the last week of September and features an all-star line-up of stand-up comedians and attendees from around the globe.
4. Todos Santos Music Festival
Founded by Peter Buck of R.E.M, the Todos Santos Music Festival is one of the most highly anticipated live music events in Baja California Sur, celebrating music, film, food, wine, nature and art. Held every January, the festival typically features seven nights full of musical performances organized by Peter Buck, himself. Featured musical guests and performances by artists like Joseph Arthur, Ed Kowalczyk, Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey and Kevin Kinney is what makes this event so unique and unforgettable. Venues include the infamous, Hotel California and the town square of Todos Santos. Since its inception in 2012, the festival has donated a portion of its revenue to local youth programs and charities.
5. Los Cabos Open of Surf
Each year, top talent from Mexico and other Latin American countries gather at Zippers point break to compete on back-to-back swells. The Los Cabos Open of Surf at Zippers, was the first 6-star ASP (Associations of Surfing Professionals) sanctioned event in Mexico. In 2014, the event hosted 144 men and 60 women surfers.
